MOSCOW — Russia's Interior Ministry says at least three people have been killed and six others were wounded by an explosion at a railway station in southern Russia.

An official at the ministry's branch in the Volgograd region said the explosion was at the railway station in the city of Volgograd. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because she wasn't authorized to speak to the media. She said several people were wounded.

The ITAR-Tass news agency said at least six people were wounded.

Russia's southern regions have been destabilized by attacks linked to Islamic rebels who have spread across the region after two separatist wars in Chechnya.

In October, a female suicide bomber blew herself up on a city bus in Volgograd, killing six people and injuring about 30.
